Some of the best places to stay aren’t found by endlessly scrolling booking sites. They’re the places somebody tells you about after they’ve actually been there.
That’s exactly why we started the Wander Built Adventure Map — a growing collection of campsites, beaches, walks, van stops, water refill points, cafés and hidden gems recommended by real people who love getting outdoors.
The Wander Built Crew has already started sending in some brilliant locations, so we’ve picked five campsites worth adding to your future road-trip list.
Whether you’re travelling in a campervan, caravan or packing the tent, there’s something here for your next adventure.
1. Wooky Farm – Wells, Somerset

If your idea of a good campsite involves plenty of space, a fire pit and somewhere peaceful to switch off, Wooky Farm sounds pretty difficult to beat.
One of the biggest attractions here is the generous pitch size, with picnic benches and fire pits helping create that proper relaxed camping feel.
There’s a farm shop on site — and according to the Crew, plenty of goat’s cheese too.
The campsite welcomes campervans, caravans and tents, has water available and is dog friendly.
Facilities are kept fairly simple, with composting toilets but no showers, so it’s one for people who don’t mind a slightly more back-to-basics stay.
Good to know
There’s a pub within walking distance, while Wells, Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole are all nearby.
If you’re planning a stay, booking in advance is recommended.
This feels like exactly the sort of place for an evening around the fire followed by a slow morning with coffee outside the van.
2. Littleton Retreat – Semington, Wiltshire

Littleton Retreat is a smaller campsite with large pitches and a quiet, well-kept feel.
Campervans and tents are welcome, and it’s another dog-friendly option if your four-legged adventure buddy comes everywhere with you.
One of the best reasons to stay here is the location.
The Kennet & Avon Canal is nearby, giving you plenty of opportunity for walking straight from the area, while Melksham and Trowbridge are within easy reach.
Unlike Wooky Farm, Littleton Retreat also has toilet and shower facilities.
Good to know
The Milk Churn pub is only a short drive away if cooking at camp suddenly feels like far too much effort.
If you prefer smaller campsites over huge holiday parks, this one sounds well worth keeping on the list.
3. Trefach Country Club – Pembrokeshire

Nestled in the Preseli Hills within Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Trefach Country Club makes a great base for exploring this part of Wales.
Camping pitches with electric hook-up are available, but the feature that immediately caught our attention was the outdoor heated swimming pool.
Not a bad addition after a day exploring.
There’s also a small clubhouse serving good, reasonably priced food and showers located beside the swimming pool.
Good to know
Trefach is roughly 30 minutes from Tenby and Folly Farm, making it particularly handy if you’re travelling with children and want a mixture of outdoor adventures and family days out.
It’s also around half an hour from the M4, so despite feeling tucked away in the countryside, it’s still relatively accessible.
A pool, clubhouse, countryside and the Pembrokeshire coast within reach?
Definitely one for the map.
4. Eskdale National Trust Campsite – Lake District

For proper mountain scenery, Eskdale is hard to overlook.
Set in a peaceful Lake District valley, this campsite puts you right in the middle of some incredible walking country.
Nearby adventures include the waterfalls around Lingcove Beck, while experienced walkers can use the area as a base for bigger days towards Scafell Pike.
And if you arrive by van, the legendary Hardknott Pass isn't far away — although that particular road deserves some research before pointing a larger vehicle towards it!
The campsite is also dog friendly, making it a great option for walking weekends.
Why we'd go
This is the type of place Wander Built was made for.
Boots by the door, coffee outside in the morning and a full day in the hills ahead.
5. Hollands Wood Campsite – New Forest

For something completely different, head south to the New Forest.
Hollands Wood offers woodland camping surrounded by the landscape the New Forest is famous for.
Expect trees, walking routes, cycling opportunities and the possibility of seeing the area's free-roaming ponies nearby.
It’s the kind of campsite where you don't necessarily need a packed itinerary.
Park up, get the chairs out and explore straight from camp.
Why we'd go
Woodland campsites just have a different atmosphere.
And when you've got walking and cycling on your doorstep, it's easy to build an entire weekend around simply being outside.
